SØLYS & Music Within – Aerial Dreams Review

SØLYS is Canadian multi-instrumentalist and music producer Michael Chambers. At the age of twelve, Chambers’ curiosity about music and technology led him to his first experiments with audio tape. With years of classical piano and audio engineering training under his belt, Chambers has since enjoyed a prolific career as a producer and recording engineer. He has worked with a wide range of artists both indie and major, such as Emilio Bonito, Of Gentlemen & Cowards, James Wyatt Crosby, Paul Federici, Whitehorse, and Sarah McLachlan. Chambers is renowned for creating bold and innovative post-rock inspired electronic and ambient music under the monikers moon:and:6 and SØLYS. His passion for storytelling, coupled with a knack for transforming audio recordings into expressive musical soundscapes make him an in-demand producer and artistic collaborator.

Music Within is the creation of Toronto based composer & multi-instrumentalist Rob McAllister. It is a diverse collection of original music created to help tell great stories. From ambient soundscapes to orchestral epics, organic instrumentation to electronic production, tense dramatic action to happy feel-good inspiration — endless stories live within the music.

About the Single

“Aerial Dreams” is a collaboration between Chambers (SØLYS) and McAllister (Music Within). It features piano and bowed guitar over plush, atmospheric synth and guitar textures. With a building soundscape, “Aerial Dreams” unfolds a beautiful melody with a relaxed mood and interesting colors.

Our Favorite Track

“Aerial Dreams” has a simple theme in the piano that is taken through many colors and textures. The guitar being bowed at the beginning of the track is a beautiful sound and fits the mood perfectly. The sounds of the two musicians are natural and blend well together. The relaxed beat that is developed in the middle section really adds to the shape of the tune. “Aerial Dreams” has many layers that come in over the course of the tune to build a very emotive musical statement.

In Conclusion

SØLYS + Music Within (Chambers & McAllister) have created a beautifully relaxing sonic soundscape that is delicate and inviting. The music transports you and instantly relives the stresses of the day.  Together each artist puts their creative touches on the track to enliven and sooth.  Though atmospheric there is a sense of melody that travels the tune to a peak and conclusion, making for satisfying listen.
