Deanna Wheeler Review
Deanna Wheeler is a California native-that has found roots in-Austin Texas as she blends the classic country sound with that of modern pop/country. The Air Force veteran lost all feeling in her legs when she contracted a rare auto-immune disorder. There was a possibility of Wheeler being paralyzed, she had to use a wheel chair during her recovery. The talented singer and songwriter used her fight-or-flight Air Force/Wounded Warrior attitude and pushed through. Her self-titled debut album is a musical journey of song and dance, motherhood and romance. This Texas strong singer will grab your ear and hold on tight.
About the Album
The Texas singer-songwriter-serves up a fiery debut album, showcasing her rock and soul vocals backed with a classic country kick, with lyrics that center on every subject of life, from addiction to love-gone wrong, all through a stunning collection of ten tunes. Her original tunes offer well-conceived surprises as well as unexpected cuts like a country version of Lita Ford’s 1988 metal hit, “Kiss Me Deadly.” Wheeler’s singing throughout the ten tunes is strong and she has the ability to tell a story through melodies that are believable and emotional.
Our Favorite Track
Our favorite track is “The Woman You Made.” A beautiful tribute to Wheeler’s mother, the lyrics highlight an inner strength that clearly shines through all of Wheeler’s music, but what this track reveals is the inspiration of where/who it comes from. Wheeler’s singing is rich with character and conveys the emotions of the lyrics. The band fills in around her, but never get in the way. This allows Wheeler to really dig in and show her vocal character and style.
In Conclusion
Wheeler offers an album that juxtaposes real life circumstances with poetic lyrics that speak to everyday people. Her ability to paint a picture of repeatable circumstances put to music is the cornerstone to the success of her debut album. Certainly, one to watch.
